Peter Sacks is a South African poet and scholar and the John P. Marquand Professor of English at Harvard University. His poetry often focuses on the dichotomy of life and conflict in South Africa, particularly during the apartheid period in which he grew up. He has published several collections of poetry, including Necessity (2002), Oh Wheel (2000), and Natal Command (1997). Sacks holds a masters from Oxford University (earned on a Rhodes Scholarship) and a doctorate from Yale University. Sacks is also an artist and has been the subject of several exhibitions, including at the Robert Miller Gallery in New York City.
