Eileen Myles

Eileen Myles is a polymath artist, institution in contemporary poetry, and a 2012 Guggenheim fellow. They have written poetry, fiction, criticism, plays, performance texts, and even a libretto. They are also known as the one-time “openly female” write-in candidate for the presidency in 1992. They moved to New York City in 1974 and became involved with the St. Mark’s Poetry Project where they learned from celebrated poets and later ran the project. From the 1980s on, Myles traveled around Europe and North America doing readings and giving performances. Their first major collection of poetry was Not Me (1991). Some of their other collections are I Must Be Living Twice: New and Selected Poems 1975-2014 (2015),Snowflake/different streets (2012), Sorry, Tree (2007), and Skies (2001). Their novel Inferno: A Poet’s Novel (2010), which won the Lambda Literary Award in 2011. Their essay collection, The Importance of Being Iceland (2009) received an art writing grant from the Warhol Foundation. Their latest book is Afterglow: A Dog Memoir, which Kirkus called “captivating” in a starred review.
